brighten up​

  • (about weather) improve, become less cloudy （天气）放晴，转晴

The weather's been awful, but it's finally starting to brighten up. 天气一直很糟糕，但终于开始放晴了。

cloud over​

  • become more cloudy 天阴起来，阴云密布

Minutes after Ben had lit the grill, the sky clouded over. He hoped it wouldn't rain. 本点燃烤架几分钟后，天空就阴云密布了。他希望不会下雨。

clear up​

  • become less stormy or windy （天气）放晴，转好

It looks like the weather's clearing up. We'll be able to start the game again soon. 看起来天气在转晴。我们很快就能重新开始比赛了。

pour down​

  • rain very heavily (informal) 倾盆大雨

roll in​

calm down​

  • become less strong or intense （风暴等）平静下来，减弱

2. More weather phrasal verbs​

pick up​

  • increase, become stronger 增加，增强

The wind's picking up. It's perfect weather for flying a kite. 风大起来了。这是放风筝的完美天气。

blow over​

  • (about a storm) move away （风暴）平息，过去，消散

As soon as the storm had blown over, the hikers left the cave and continued walking. 暴风雨一平息，徒步者们就离开洞穴继续前行。

cool down​

  • become cooler 变凉，冷却下来

Alice likes to sit on the balcony when the weather cools down in the evening. 当晚上天气凉快下来时，爱丽丝喜欢坐在阳台上。

let up​

  • become less severe 减弱，停止

After days of bad weather, the rain finally started to let up. 经过几天的恶劣天气后，雨终于开始变小了。

freeze over​

  • completely freeze 封冻，结冰

People go ice-skating when the lake freezes over in the winter. 冬天湖水结冰时，人们去滑冰。

die down​

  • (about a storm or wind) become calmer （风暴或风）逐渐减弱，平息

start off​

  • begin 开始，起初

warm up​
